General Information

Tinos, is the holy island of Virgin Mary. In August it is swamped with thousands of pilgrims who come to pray or fulfill a vow. The feast for Virgin Mary is on August 15 and the streets surrounding the church are filled with commercial fairs.


Capital and port, Tinos, is where most of the population lives. The church of Virgin Mary built with marbles from Paros and Tinos, dominates overlooking the city, precisely at the point where the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary was found.
Next to the church is the Gallery of artists from Tinos and Modern Greek Painters. Also, close to the church is the Archaeological Museum of Tinos. It has discoveries from the temple of Neptune and Amphitrite as well as the discoveries from the geometric tombs of "Exo Meria". Another important monastery is at Kehrovouni that of Virgin Mary of the Angels, that has the appearance of a medieval village.

In the island interior are 45 graphic villages that maintain their traditional character and architecture. Among them distinguish the big villages Steni and Pyrgos with the house of sculptor Halepa and the marble sculptor workshops.

Tinos has many beautiful beaches like Agios Fokas, Kionia, Porto, Panormou bay, Agios Sostis, and Pahia Ammos. Worth visiting is the lunar landscape called “Volax” with the strange blocks of stone considered a unique phenomenon in the world.
