General Information

Drama townThe prefecture of Drama is on the north-western part of Greece and borders on the north with Bulgaria, on the east with the prefecture of Xanthi, on the south with the prefecture of Kavala and on the west with the prefecture of Serres. The prefecture crosses river Nestos and is encompassed by the mountains of Rodopi, Pangeo, Menikio and Lekani. Its forests are beautiful and the entire natural environment with the springs, Nestos, the lakes, the natural paths and the rich flora and fauna are of great ecological interest.

Aggitis CaveIn the cave of river Aggitis were located findings from the Neolithic period and in the wider region of Drama neolithic settlements with organised life. During the historical years Thracian tribes who are subjected later to the Macedonian king Philippos II inhabited the region. During the Byzantine period the area had a lot of conquerors and in 1383 it is subjugated to the Ottomen. It is released in 1913 during the Balkan wars.

The city of Drama is built on the foothill of Falakro mountain and is notable with the Byzantine monuments, the mansions and also the modern commercial centre and the groups of old tobacco warehouses. Visit the springs of St Barbara with places for recreation, and the marvellous route in the forest on the hill Korylovou at the north of the city.
