General Information

Skopelos It is the second in size island of Sporades and belongs to the Prefecture of Magnisia. It is also called “island of forests” because it is the greenest island in Greece. The ground, in its bigger part is covered with beautiful pinewoods that lead to beautiful beaches and bays.

The town of Skopelos maintains its islander character with narrow paved alleys and graphic white houses.
The bigger villages are Glossa, Klima and Elios. From Glossa one can see Skiathos and Pilio.

In the antiquity the island was named Peparithos, who was the son of Dionysus and Ariadni. First resident of the island was the other son of Dionysus, Stafylos.

• The ruins of the walls of ancient Peparithos

• The church of Episkopi (17th century)

The monastery of Evagelistria (Daponte) with carved temple and icons from the 14th century.

Sotiros monastery

Prodromos monastery founded in 1612 and has icons dated from the 16th century

• Glossa, the northwest village with the traditional colour and the country chapels like the Monastery of Taxiarhes at an altitude of 300 metres with enchanting view, the Monastery of Agios Giannis in the location Kastri, built on the top of a rock at a height of 100 metres.

• The graphic lighthouse at the “nose” of the island near Loutraki.

• The photographic centre of Skopelos

• The sculptured graves from Roman times in Sentoukia area

• The archaeological site of Asclepion (4th century BC)
